Old Admiralty Building and Interface with Kirkland for OAB Fire Doors

Security and Acoustic Upgrades

The project aimed to improve security and acoustic performance of doors between Government Departments, ensuring compliance with security service requirements.

Heritage Preservation and Restoration

Heritage specialists required that all but one door set be preserved and upgraded, necessitating careful removal and restoration of historical elements like friezes, dados, architraves and skirtings.

Controlled Work Due to ACM Presence

Due to the presence of asbestos-containing materials (ACM’s), all work had to be carried out under strict conditions to ensure safety.

Removal and Reconstruction Process

ACMs within the fielded panels were removed, and new panels were crafted in the workshop. Additional elements such as skirting, friezes, and dados were reproduced for installation.

Successful Security Implementation and Finishing Touches

All security measures were successfully integrated, and reinstatement work including French polishing was executed to achieve a refined finish.

Certification Limitations and Compliance

While the doors could not receive formal sign-off due to certification constraints, IMS was able to follow British Standard 8214 and get third party sign off that this had been achieved.
